| If you have read this far, you probably are a Laurel & Hardy fan. If so, you may care to join our happy group. This web site has been prepared by members of The Live Ghost tent which is the London branch of the Sons Of The Desert. If you live far from London, though, do not despair - there are so many tents around the world that there is probably one near you. For the address of your nearest tent, check out the Tent Database in The Intra-Tent Journal Online. | |||||
You are welcome to attend any of our London meetings which take place at The Calthorpe Arms, 252 Grays Inn Road, London WC1X 8JR. Click here for directions. We have a private function room to ourselves, using a video projector to show a variety of Laurel & Hardy films, including special features and rarities. We find that many members like to buy L&H memorabilia such as books, photos etc. and we have a small stock of L&H items for sale at our meetings.
Important news: From now on all of The Live Ghost tent meetings will take place on the first Saturday evening in every even month, i.e. February, April, June, October and December. NB There is no meeting in August due to holidays. No Fooling – It’s April! There may be no fool like an April Fool, but we have a great movie line-up that aint foolin’ around, so make an effort to attend our April special on Saturday 5th April and keep fingers crossed that we get some nice Spring weather as well. Our main feature is one of the boys’ best and concerns a lot of practical joking which is highly appropriate. There will also be the usual mix of other fun happenings that are usual at The Live Ghost tent meetings. The film programme was suggested by one of our members who wishes to remain unanimous! Films being shown: FROM SOUP TO NUTS (1928), CHICKENS COME HOME (1931), THE HOOSE-GOW (1929), OUR WIFE (1931) and finally A CHUMP AT OXFORD (1940). Don't forget that you can always ask for your favourite to be shown and we will do our very best to show that film as soon as possible. So come along and enjoy a festive cocktail or two and watch the world's greatest film comedy team in action. There is a general schedule of events below. For people who are new to the Sons of the Desert, The Live Ghost tents officers will be on hand to answer questions or any points at all. If you ask any of them something they do not know the answer to, they should know how to find out. So seek the Sheik, all tent officers wear their name badges so you can identify them. Entry is free for Live Ghost members and tickets are priced at £3 for non-members. We look forward to seeing you soon! |

As well as gaining free admission to our meetings, full members of The Live Ghost tent receive The Intra-Tent Journal quarterly and our own tent newsletter (called The Spooktator), which comes out on an ad-hoc basis, plus any other news of events etc. Fees for membership are £10 per year for an individual, £12 for a couple living at the same address and £15 for a family (includes two adults and children under sixteen). Non-members of our tent would be charged an individual annual subscription of £13 per annum if they wanted to receive the ITJ, so this shows what great value our tent subscription fees are. For enquiries please contact our membership secretary Eric Elliott (01932 828928) or via email at e.elliott703@btinternet.com |

By Tube: The closest Tube station is probably Russell Square (Piccadilly Line) - turn right on coming out of the station then take the next right into Grenville Street. Turn left at the end of that into Guilford Street and walk along to the end, where it meets Grays Inn Road. The pub is across the road and along to your left a bit. Chancery Lane (Central Line) and King's Cross (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, Piccadilly, Northern, and Victoria Lines) are also reasonably close, at either end of Grays Inn Road. By Bus: Numbers 17, 45 and 46 go down Grays Inn Road. In addition, 19, 38, 55 and 243 go along Theobalds Road, which intersects with Grays Inn Road a few minutes' walk south of the pub. |
